
December 23, 1953: Masaaki Ikemiyagi was born in Naha, Okinawa.
June 1, 1968: At age fifteen, he began studying karate under Meitoku Yagi. Yagi Sensei became his most respected teacher and spiritual advisor, passing on the deep traditions of Goju-ryu.
January 28, 1973: Gave his first demonstration performance at an All Okinawa Karate-do Federation tournament.
March, 1975: Graduated from Okinawa University, majoring in Law and Economics.
November 12, 1978: Awarded the title of Shihan at the Goju-ryu Meibukan Headquarters.
1977 – 1978: Spent ten months teaching karate in Brazil, his first foreign assignment. He subsequently traveled extensively to spread Okinawan karate in China, Russia, the USA, Europe, and Australia.
July 1, 1980: Opened his own dojo in Okinawa, which soon became a destination for students worldwide.
1987: Accepted a challenge and fought Shiza Takeshi, a Japanese shootboxing champion.
2002: Featured in the Discovery Channel series "Way of the Warrior" as a Grandmaster of Okinawan Goju-Ryu.
Throughout the 2010s and 2020s, Hanshi Ikemiyagi has remained a primary representative of Goju-Ryu for the Okinawa Prefecture Administration, leading seminars globally and organizing major events, including the 1st Okinawa Karate International Tournament in 2018 and large-scale online seminars during the global pandemic.
